After watching the video above, you’ll be able to decide for yourself if wool is flame resistant. In the video, you can clearly see the fire-resistant properties of wool. It simply refuses to catch fire when exposed to an open flame. Sure there is some charring, but in the end, it refuses to support a flame.
In this example, the wool has been felted. It is a piece of material that is used as insulation in yurts. The wool in mattresses wouldn’t be so tightly woven, but in any case, you can clearly see the fire-resistant properties of the wool.
In an open flame test, the mattress is exposed to 50 seconds of open flame on the side, and 70 seconds of open flame on the top.
The mattress in the video below has a cotton cover and a wool fire barrier. The mattress has an amazing resistance to open flame even if it is made all-natural materials. The wool is definitely flame-resistant and the mattress passed the flamability test with flying colors.
